Barron Co. Standoff Ends Safely

On October 16, 2022, at approximately 6:45 PM, the Cumberland Police Department was advised of an intoxicated disorderly subject located at a residence in the City of Cumberland. The complainant also stated there was concern for the subject’s mental health. Smile! WI Photo ID’s Offered at DMV

 If you still need a photo ID to vote next month you can get one for free.  The Wisconsin Department of Transportation says you can go to any Wisconsin DMV and get help getting an ID for free.  All you need is a birth certificate or passport, proof of identity, proof of U.S. and Wisconsin residency, and your social security number.  Election Day is November 8th.

Buckle UP, Phones DOWN

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is trying to cut down on distracted driving.  The D-O-T says today is Buckle Up, Phone Down Day, where drivers are urged to buckle their seatbelts and stay off their phones.  The D-O-T says 40 people died in distracted driving crashes in Wisconsin last year, a 54 percent increase from 2019.

Student Loan Forgiveness Application Available

 A beta version of the Biden administration’s student loan forgiveness application is now available online. The beta version of the application can be accessed at student-aid-dot-gov.  Applications submitted now will be used to help refine the process ahead of the official form launch.  Those who submit their information using the beta version will have their information processed, and will not have to re-submit. Surplus Bucks in BuckyLand

 Wisconsin has set another record with its budget surplus.  The state’s Department of Administration on Friday said the state ended its last fiscal year, which ended in June, with a four-point-three billion-dollar surplus.  The DOA also says the state finished the year with a one-point-seven billion-dollar rainy day fund.  The big surplus numbers were driven in part by record high tax collections.  Those jumped five percent last year, which was one-and-a-half billion-dollars over expectations.

OctoBRRRRR, Chippewa Valley Waking Up to Cold Temps

There will be some frost on the pumpkins to start the week across the Chippewa Valley. The National Weather Service says temperatures to start the day will be in the low 30s today, and dip into the 20s tomorrow. There are no watches or warnings for western Wisconsin, though there is a winter weather advisory for some folks closer to Lake Superior.
