Green Co. Sheriff Short Staffed For Female Inmates

The sheriff in Green County says he doesn’t have enough guards to safely watch over his jail’s female inmates. Sheriff Jeff Skatrud yesterday said he is sending the women who used to be housed at his jail to the jail in Iowa County, or sending them home on electronic monitoring. The sheriff says it could be a year or more before he can hire and train enough guards to be able to once again keep women in his jail.

WI DMV Extends Hours Ahead of Primary

The Wisconsin Division of Motor Vehicles is holding extended hours to make sure people can get everything they need for tomorrow’s primary election.  The Wisconsin Department of Transportation says DMV’s across the state are open until six o’clock this evening so people can get their photo ID’s.  More information is available on the Wisconsin DMV website.

Violence Shakes Milwaukee

It was a violent weekend in Milwaukee. Police in the city say 19 people were shot between Friday afternoon and late last night, two of them died. The shootings include a quadruple shooting on Friday, a flurry of shootings that saw five people shot in an hour-and-a-half on Saturday, and a double shooting on Sunday. Milwaukee Police say they’ve now seen more than 500 non-fatal shootings in the city so far this year.

Polls Show Close Race Ahead of WI Primaries

Wisconsin’s Republican race for governor is tight heading into tomorrow’s Election Day. A new poll from Emerson College gives Rebecca Kleefisch a two-point lead over Tim Michels, 36-34, but that’s within the poll’s margin of error. The poll says 14 percent of Republican voters are undecided while eight percent of voters support Tim Ramthun and six percent support Kevin Nicholson, even though he dropped out of the race. Voters will make their choice tomorrow.
