Wrong Way Driver Charged With 6th OWI

A man’s facing his sixth OWI charge after the Dane County Sheriff’s Office says he was caught driving the wrong way down Interstate-94.  The sheriff’s office says Reginald Shaw was pulled over and arrested after being caught driving westbound in the eastbound lanes near New Haven around one o’clock this morning.  The sheriff’s office says he was under the influence and driving a stolen car.

Lawsuit To Block Ballot Names Dismissed

A lawsuit aimed at keeping three Wisconsin Republicans off ballots this year is dismissed.  U.S. District Judge Lynn Adelman calls the case procedurally improper.  A group of ten Wisconsin residents claims U.S. Senator Ron Johnson and Representatives Scott Fitzgerald and Tom Tiffany helped cause the January 6th Capitol riot by spreading lies about the 2020 election.

Donation to Olbrich Botanical Gardens Hopes to Grow Art Scene

A couple that volunteers at Madison’s Olbrich Botanical Gardens is donating one-point-three-million dollars to a fund to support the arts.  The Bridging Nature and Art: Performance and Visual Art in the Gardens Endowment will pay musicians and artists to perform at the gardens.  This summer there will be ten performances.  They’ll take place each Tuesday from June 14th to August 16th.

No Trial For Lake Hallie Hit and Run Case

There won’t be a trial for the man accused of running down a pedestrian in Lake Hallie back in 2020. Court records show that 40-year-old Christopher Peterson pleaded no contest to the charges in the case. Police say he hit and killed 60-year-old Dennis Mohr in May of 2020. Peterson pleaded no contest to homicide by negligent operation of a vehicle, in exchange two other charges were dropped. Peterson will be sentenced in August.

Reaction to Special Session Follows Party Lines

Wisconsin lawmakers will come back to the Capitol in two weeks, but they will do nothing to change the state’s abortion laws. Governor Evers yesterday ordered a special session for June 22nd in hopes that lawmakers will vote to make abortions legal in the state. Wisconsin is one the states where abortion will be come illegal if Roe v. New Turn in Same Old Probe

The court battle over Wisconsin’s investigation into the 2020 election is taking a new turn. A Dane County judge yesterday ordered former Supreme Court Justice Michael Gableman to testify at a hearing for an open records request from his office. An outside group has asked for all manner of emails and communications from Gableman’s special prosecutor’s office, but he refused to turn them over. The judge wants Gableman to answer questions in-person about that at a hearing tomorrow.

Audit Turns Up Millions in Accounting Mistakes

Wisconsin lawmakers are promising some changes at the state’s insurance commissioner’s office after an audit found nearly 61 million-dollars in accounting mistakes in the state’s medical malpractice fund. A new audit released this week says the mistakes misstated the finances for the Injured Patients and Families Compensation Fund. The fund is designed to pay for people injured or killed during medical malpractice cases. Bird Flu Holds Steady

Wisconsin hasn’t reported a new bird flu case in nearly three weeks. The state’s Department of Agriculture last reported a confirmed case of the Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza on May 20th in a flock of backyard chickens in Bayfield County. Since then, there’s been nothing. Overall, Wisconsin has confirmed bird flu cases in commercial or backyard flocks in 14 counties. Nearly three million birds in the state have been put down because of the flu.

Gov. Evers Calls Special Session

Governor Tony Evers is calling a special session of the Wisconsin Legislature this month.  Evers says the goal of the special session will be to repeal Wisconsin’s criminal abortion ban.  The session convenes on June 22nd.
