Lawyer For Waukesha Christmas Parade Suspect Wants Out

There could be a delay in the trial for the man accused of speeding through the Waukesha Christmas Parade.  Darrell Brooks Jr.’s lawyer yesterday filed a motion to withdraw from the case.  Brooks is supposed to go on trial in a little less than two weeks.  This is just the latest change for Brooks’ defense.  He originally planned on an insanity defense, but later changed his mind.  Brooks is facing life in prison for killing six and injuring 60 others

V.P. Harris Visits WI

Vice President Kamala Harris’ Milwaukee visit included a chat with Democratic state prosecutors, but it was politics on her mind.  Harris spoke to Democratic attorneys general yesterday, but she also visited with young voters and Hispanic leaders in the city.  Milwaukee is key to the Democrats’ plans to win Wisconsin, and Wisconsin is key to their plans to retake the U.S. Senate.  Milwaukee Congresswoman Gwen Moore traveled with the Vice President, Senate candidate Mandela Barnes did not.

The 3-5-3 Is Coming

Get ready for the 353. Folks in parts of south-central and southwestern Wisconsin will see that as their new area code starting next year. Wisconsin’s Public Service Commission voted yesterday to add the new area code. Commissioners say the 608 area code is simply out of numbers. Anyone who currently has a 608 number will keep it, anyone in the 608 area who gets a number will be assigned something starting with 353.

UW Campuses See Student Boost

There are more new students this fall at UW schools than at any time since 2018. But not every campus is seeing an increase. The university yesterday said UW-Madison, UW-Green Bay, UW-Superior, and UW-La Crosse all saw their enrollments go up this fall. The state’s other campuses were either flat or saw fewer students. WI Coronavirus Hospitalizations Dip

Wisconsin is ending the week with under 400 people in the hospital with the coronavirus. The state’s Hospital Association yesterday said there are 392 people in the hospital with the virus, that includes 66 people in the ICU. No Use Crying…

It was a double clean-up on a county highway in Dodge County. The sheriff’s office says a milk truck and a Fed-Ex truck collided outside of Rubicon, Wisconsin yesterday morning. It happened at the intersection of County Highway P and County Highway N. The wreck spread boxes along the side of the road, and ripped a hole in the milk truck that left milk pouring down the street. Both truck drivers were taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Bar Owner Facing Arson Charges

Prosecutors in Juneau County are moving ahead with arson charges against the owner of Beagles Bar in Lyndon Station.  The D.A. in Mauston yesterday filed charges against 43-year-old Heath Fjorden.  Investigators say he dumped gas on the basement floor of the bar earlier this month, then lit it on fire.  Firefighters were suspicious of the fire from the get-go.  Fjorden is in the hospital with severe burns, he says he was burned during a grill mishap at his home.  Investigators
