The suspect in Saturday’s shooting in downtown Chippewa Falls is due in court later today. Prosecutors are not saying much about the case, including what led-up to the shooting. The victim called police Saturday Night and said she’d been shot. Investigators say the suspect and victim know each other, but they’re not offering any specifics either.

The sheriff in Kenosha County says deputies opened fire on a suspect who pointed a weapon at them. The suspect is now in the hospital, and the deputies are on leave as an investigation begins. It happened yesterday afternoon near Highway 45 in the Town of Paris. The sheriff says the suspect was speeding away from officers, then crashed in a field. That’s when the shooting started. The state Department of Justice is handling the investigation.

 Wisconsin’s bail reform amendment is taking another step toward the spring ballot today. The proposed constitutional amendment will be before the full State Senate later today. Lawmakers already approved the plan, which would allow judges in the state to consider how dangerous a suspect is while setting bail, once before. Republicans at the Capitol want to approve it a second time in enough time to get the amendment on the April ballot.

There could be a question on the April ballot asking about welfare and work. The Wisconsin Senate is set to vote today on a resolution that would place an advisory question on the spring ballot that would ask voters whether people on welfare should work in order to receive benefits. On Saturday. January 14, 2023. at 12:56 a.m., the Barron County 911 Center received a call of a snowmobile crash just off Hwy SS north of Rice Lake. Deputies from the Barron County Sheriff’s Department along with LMC Ambulance, Rice Lake Fire and WI DNR all responded to the scene.
