A former La Crosse Bishop could be named the next pope.
Cardinal Raymond Leo Burke is originally from Richland Center and was a former bishop in La Crosse from 1995 to 2004. Cardinal Burke was not appointed by Pope Francis and is one of 100 cardinals that are eligible to be the next pope. If he is appointed to be the next pope, he would be the first American. The cardinals will gather next month to start the selection process.
