Referendums See Different Fates in Different Districts

Voters in Menomonie have said No to a four million-dollar tax hike for the city’s schools.

Election managers say 59 percent of people who voted on Tuesday voted against the operating referendum. Menomonie Schools want the extra money to keep-up with the cost of inflation. District administrator Joe Zydowsky warned before the vote that without the new money they’d have to make deep cuts, or even close some schools.

Voters in the Cumberland area, meanwhile, approved a 32 million-dollar tax hike that will be used to expand and update their school buildings.
