Labor Day Snapshot: Biden to Visit WI, American Workers Celebrated, Heatwave Hits The Union

Hello.

Welcome to your Labor Day. Hopefully you are “working” at taking some time off today to relax.

In 1882, the first Labor Day holiday parade was held in New York City. Today, we’ll take a peek around the Union to see what is happening on this labor day in 2022.

President Biden is hitting the road.  The White House says he’ll deliver remarks today “celebrating Labor Day and the dignity of American workers,” in both Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, the third time he’s visited the commonwealth in a week.

Biden is increasing his domestic travel schedule as midterm elections are just over two months away.  Vice President Harris will be in Boston to celebrate the administration’s “commitment to working families with Labor leaders and advocates.”

When it comes to the stop here in our state, there are a couple of things to watch for with President Biden’s visit to Milwaukee today.

There  is, of course, waiting to see just what the president will say. He is in town for the annual Laborfest, but he’s been talking about MAGA Republicans recently. Then there’s the question of whether Governor Evers or Lt. Governor Mandela Barnes will appear on the stage with the president given his low popularity here in Wisconsin.

If you are planning a road trip or filling up the tank to haul a boat home, it will cost almost 60 cents more to fill the tank this Labor Day than last.

Triple-A says the average price for a gallon of regular in Wisconsin is three-dollars and 57-cents. Last Labor Day the statewide average was three-dollars and one-cent. Nationally, Triple-A says the average price for a gallon of gas is three-dollars and 78-cents.

Mother Nature is working on a heat wave.

More than 45 million people are currently under excessive heat warnings in the western U.S.  That’s according to the National Weather Service.

As Labor Day weekend draws to a close, several states including California, Oregon, Arizona, Utah, and Idaho saw triple-digit temperatures in recent days.  The dangerous heat wave is expected to last through at least mid-week.

This day usually acts as an unofficial end to summer for many folks as well. So, for the work you do and the work that’s ahead, we thank you. We are right along with you and appreciate you spending some of your day with us.

Thanks for stopping by!
