The discussion about teaching race and racism in the classroom is now headed for the Wisconsin Capitol.
A pair of Republican lawmakers, state Rep. Chuck Wichgers and state Senator Andre Jaqcue, yesterday introduced three plans to ban the teaching of critical race theory. Jaqcue says critical race theory undermines the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. by focusing on the color of someone’s skin, and not the content of their character.
The plans would ban critical race theory from public schools in the state, the UW System, and from official government training programs. Democrats say there’s no need for a ban on critical race theory.
