Lawmakers in Madison are once again trying a pink-tax plan.
A group of lawmakers led by Madison Democrat Melissa Sargent yesterday introduced a proposal to end the state’s five-percent tax on diapers and feminine hygiene products. Sargent says the state treats them as ‘luxury’ items as opposed to the necessities that they are. Sargent has tried this idea in the past. Two years ago she said ending the tax would cost the state about two-and-a-half-million-dollars.
