A Rice Lake man has been identified as the driver killed in a crash involving a car and semi near Shell Lake.
The Wisconsin State Patrol says 30-year-old Austin Tyler Knutson of Rice Lake died in the crash shortly after 7 Wednesday morning on Highway 63 at County Road J in Washburn County.
Investigators say a northbound semi had stopped to turn west onto County Road J when Knutson’s car struck the rear of the trailer. Knutson was extricated from the vehicle and emergency crews provided aid, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The semi driver, 36-year-old Nicolas Christopher Smith of White Bear Lake, Minnesota, was not injured. State Patrol says both drivers were wearing seatbelts and alcohol was not involved.
The crash remains under investigation by the Wisconsin State Patrol.
