The Humane Animal Welfare Society in Waukesha is preparing to receive about two dozen rescued Ridglan Farms beagles.
Shelter leaders say they are lowering adoption fees for adult dogs through the weekend to clear space before the animals arrive next week. HAWS says many of the beagles have never lived inside a home and need extra care and training. Veterinarians plan to evaluate the dogs once they arrive. The beagles have been sent to shelters nationwide after groups secured the release of about 15-hundred dogs from the breeding facility and that includes a trip out East for some of the pups.
Some of the beagles were sent to animal rescue groups in Westchester County, others to centers in New Jersey, and more went to Paws Of War in Smithtown, Long Island. That group will give the beagles to veterans and first responders.
