CWD Detected in Chippewa Co. Deer, Public Meeting Planned

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is confirming its first positive case for chronic wasting disease in a wild deer in Chippewa County.

According to a press release from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, it was a one-year-old but harvested by a hunter within ten miles of the Barron and Dunn County borders. The detection will renew several bands like the three-year baiting and feeding ban already in place for Chippewa County, a two year baiting ban and feeding already in place for Barron County and more. A public meeting is scheduled for February 6th and will be held by the DNR and Chippewa County Deer Advisory Council.
