Legislators and Healthcare Providers Testify in Support of $15 million for Chippewa Valley Emergency Departments

Today in the capitol, State Senator Jesse James (R-Altoona) and others testified in the Senate Committee on Health and Assembly Committee on Health, Aging and Long-Term Care on the recently introduced legislation that would re-allocate $15 million to ensure continued funding for essential healthcare services in the Chippewa Valley.

“I’m grateful and pleased to see that my senate and assembly colleagues are aware of the urgency in moving this money through the legislative process as quickly as possible,” Senator James said. “I am optimistic and hopeful that we will get this transfer of money to the governor’s desk in the next couple weeks.”

With HSHS’ announcement of its departure from the Chippewa Valley, this money would act as a short- term bridge giving other healthcare providers time to scale up their capacity and in order to create a long- term sustainable solution in the region.
