Layoffs are beginning today at a goat cheese plant that employs nearly 200 people in Belmont.
The plant is closing as Canadian cheese and dairy products company Saputo moves goat cheese production to its facility in Reedsburg. The company also will close its plant in Lancaster, where 100 people are employed. Saputo said workers are being offered a severance package or a job at another company facility.
