WI Lawmakers Look to New Abortion Laws

Wisconsin’s attorney general says a new abortion law in the state would scuttle his lawsuit over the state’s near-total ban on abortions, but it wouldn’t end all legal challenges.

Attorney General Josh Kaul sued over Wisconsin’s 1849 abortion law back in July. Yesterday he said if lawmakers approve a new law next spring, that new law would end his legal challenge immediately. Republican Assembly Speaker Robin Vos said he’s open to a new law that allows for abortions in cases of rape or incest. Governor Evers continues to promise to veto anything short of a law that allows for all abortions. Kaul said even if his challenge to the 1849 law goes away, there are other legal options for abortion supporters.
