Prosecutors in Eau Claire are dismissing homicide charges in a killing from last year, but the suspect is still looking at prison time.
The D.A.’s Office yesterday dropped the reckless homicide charges against Selwyn Smith, saying he was justified to shoot and kill a man who broke down his door and punched him in the face in February of last year. The decision comes after Smith pleaded guilty to weapons and drugs charges. He’s a felon who never should have had a gun.
Smith will be sentenced in December.
