Investigation Continues After Shots Fired at Buffalo Co. Business

On Friday May 13, 2022 at about 2AM the Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a Hold Up Alarm with shots fired at a tavern in the Town of Buffalo. Units from the Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office, Winona Police Department and the Trempealeau County Sheriff’s Office responded.

While units were responding, a suspect vehicle description of a 2017 White Buick with no front license plate was obtained and units responding from the Trempealeau County Sheriff’s Office encountered the suspect vehicle on traveling east on STH 34/54 near Klein Lane in Trempealeau County. A traffic stop was initiated, and two subjects were detained without incident. The subjects were identified as Shakuur Kroll and Artanya Engel both of Black River Falls, WI. A Sgt. from the Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the traffic stop as well.

Initial investigation into the matter indicates that a verbal altercation between Kroll and three males, possibly from the Winona area had occurred in a parking area outside of the tavern. Kroll pulls a handgun on the subjects and fires two rounds; one round was in the direction of one of the males. Neither round struck any person. Kroll initially fled the scene, then returned to collect evidence that would link him to the shooting and fled eastbound on STH 35/54.

The Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the matter. Both subjects that were detained are being held at the Buffalo County Jail on charges of Operating a Firearm While under the Influence of an Intoxicant, Endangering Safety by use of a Dangerous Weapon and First Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety.
