WIAA Playbook Stays Away From Courts

The folks who run high school sports in Wisconsin are looking to stay out of the courtroom.

The WIAA is considering rule changes this week that add penalties for anyone who tries to get a judge or a court to overrule a ruling from WIAA officials. WIAA Executive Director Stephanie Hauser says the trend of going to court to change what happens in a game or a match is a bad one. The move comes after St. Thomas More High School went to a judge to try and reverse a team suspension and stay in the state high school basketball tournament. Hauser says it’s hard enough to get officials and manage high school sports, adding the threat of lawsuits will only make it harder.
