State agriculture officials plan to compost millions of dead chickens who were infected with bird flu at a Jefferson County farm.
The process of killing the nearly three million chickens is ongoing at the Palmyra facility. The chickens will be transported to a field about eight miles down the road to be composted.
The state says composting is the most environmentally friendly way to dispose of the infected birds.
