Dairy farmers in Wisconsin say they are excited and a bit worried about the latest agriculture plan coming out of the Wisconsin Capitol.
Lawmakers this week okayed legislation that sets a pathway for rulemaking at the Department of Ag and Department of Natural Resources, among a handful of other things. It also creates a new hydrogeologist position in state government. The Wisconsin Dairy Alliance, however, is warning Governor Evers not to use that new position to push “advocacy” on groundwater issues. Dairy farmers have voiced concerns about what the governor may say about manure and other chemical levels in some wells in rural parts of the state.
The Dairy Alliance is asking the governor to make sure the new hydrologist helps farmers in the state.
