It doesn’t look like Wisconsin lawmakers are going to approve a new Milwaukee County juvenile detention center this spring.
Assembly Speaker Robin Vos yesterday said it’s unlikely that state representatives will vote on the plan from the Wisconsin Senate to spend 43 million-dollars to replace the troubled Lincoln Hills youth prison. Vos says he’s waiting on Governor Evers to find a suitable site. Neighbors in Milwaukee fought the governor’s original plan to put the new youth prison on Milwaukee’s north side. Vos says lawmakers want to close Lincoln Hills, but need some action from the governor first.
