WI High Court Hears Case About Releasing Business Names

Governor Evers’ plan to release a list of businesses in the state with coronavirus cases or close-contacts has the state’s Supreme Court worried about overreach.

Justices yesterday pushed the state’s lawyers on whether there would be any limit to the information the state could release in the name of public health. The court heard arguments as to whether the state’s Department of Health Services can release the list from 2020 of businesses where someone tested positive for, or had close contact with someone who had the virus. Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce is suing to block the release.

The group says releasing that information would only scare customers away.
