Madison Masks Up in Schools, Reinstates Coronavirus Leave

Madison Schools have over 200 thousand N95 masks for students and teachers.

Governor Evers yesterday announced that his office is sending the masks to the city’s school district. Originally, the Boys and Girls Club of Dane County and other groups were trying to raise some money to buy the masks. The Boys and Girls Club’s Michael Johnson says he’s trying to keep teachers in Madison safe. Johnson says they should get the masks today, and then start handing them out in the next couple of days.

Meanwhile, teachers in Madison schools once again have some extra days off.

The city’s school board yesterday reinstated its coronavirus leave policy which gives teachers and staff members five extra sick days, and two new mental health days. School Board Clerk Nicki Vander Meulen says they wanted to do something to try and improve their staffing levels. No one knows just how much the extra days off will cost the district, because no one is sure just how many teachers will take their coronavirus sick days.
