MKE Revs Up Discussions After Car Thefts

It doesn’t look like Milwaukee is going to sue Kia and Hyundai because their cars are popular with thieves, but the city may fine the companies.

Milwaukee’s City Attorney’s Office yesterday said they are looking at filing public nuisance claims against the two automakers to try and collect money for Milwaukee. Milwaukee Police say car thieves like Kias and Hyundais because you don’t need a key to start the engine. Milwaukee has seen a 155-percent increase in stolen cars this year alone. Kia and Hyundai have promised Milwaukee Police an unlimited number of steering wheel locks, but that hasn’t slowed thefts.
