Judge Opens Door to Possible Charges Against Officer

A Milwaukee County judge has opened the door to possible charges against former Waukesha Police Officer Joseph Mensah.

Judge Glenn Yamahiro yesterday ruled there is probable cause to think Mensah committed a crime when he shot and killed Jay Anderson during an officer-involved shooting back in 2016. Mensah was earlier cleared in the shooting. The judge will now appoint a special prosecutor who will make the final decision on charges. Investigators originally said Mensah shot Anderson when he reached for a gun while Mensah was speaking with him. The judge yesterday ruled Mensah didn’t de-escalate the situation.
