U.S. Army Has a Birthday

Today is the U.S. Army’s 246th birthday. 

The history of the U.S. Army dates to June 14, 1775 when the Continental Congress met and authorized colonial riflemen be conscripted to serve a year’s time in the Continental Army.  On June 15, 1775, the Continental Congress appointed George Washington as Commander of the Continental Army. 

After General Washington led the Continental Army to victory in the Revolutionary War against the British crown the fighting force became known as the U.S. Army.
