Lawmakers Propose Property Tax Cut

Republican lawmakers in Madison want to use a billion-dollars of the state’s stimulus money to cut property taxes.

Assembly Speaker Robin Vos yesterday said one-billion of the three-point-two billion dollars that Governor Tony Evers has to spend should go back to homeowners across the state. Vos wants to spend the rest of the money on long-term care facilities in the state, and on an investment in rural broadband internet. Republicans approved legislation to give themselves some say in how the money is spent earlier this month, but Governor Evers vetoed that plan on Monday.
