On November 7th, Sawyer County Deputies were dispatched to the Town of Spider Lake to look for a vehicle containing a subject who had reportedly been involved in a theft in Ashland County.

Shortly after 10:00am, a Sawyer County Deputy located the vehicle near the intersection of State Highway 77 and County Highway OO. As the deputy neared, the suspect vehicle took off westbound at speeds in excess of 100 MPH.

The pursuit continued into the City of Hayward, where the driver of the suspect vehicle lost control, striking another vehicle. The suspect then fled on foot while the deputy was checking on the wellbeing of the driver in the vehicle that was struck. The suspect was located a short time later with assistance from a National Forest Law Enforcement K-9 unit. He was identified as 29 year old Eriesse T. Whitehead, of Hayward. Whitehead was taken into custody on charges of Fleeing/Eluding Law Enforcement Causing Property Damage and Reckless Driving.
