Senator Ron Johnson is positive for COVID-19.
The Wisconsin Republican tested positive Friday after being exposed to someone with the disease while he was in Washington, D.C. sometime after September 29. Johnson had already spent 14 days in quarantine after being exposed to someone with the disease in mid September. The Senator said although the positive test surprises him he feels fine, has no symptoms and plans to remain isolated until he is given the all clear by his doctors.
Meanwhile, President Trump’s doctors continue to treat him with the antiviral drug Remdesivir among other COVID-19 targeting therapeutics. Saturday night, the White House released a statement from the President’s doctor which says Trump is not out of the woods yet, but there is cause to be cautiously optimistic.
The statement says the President is fever free and that he has received a second dose of Remdesivir without complication. The President is at Walter Reed Medical Center in Bethesda where he will remain today for monitoring as he conducts his presidential duties.
The President also initially received a one time COVID-19 treatment consisting of an experimental antibody cocktail that’s being tested at Stanford Medical Center. Because it’s so new, scientists still don’t know how long it will remain effective.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell says President Trump sounds well. Jim Forbes has more.
