WI Officials React to RBG Loss

WI Officials React to RBG Loss

The liberal women on Wisconsin’s Supreme Court are remembering Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s life and career.

Justices Rebecca Dallet and Jill Karofsky spoke with a Milwaukee TV station on Saturday. They both said Ginsburg was an example for judges, and an example for women and girls. Ginsburg died on Friday after a long battle with cancer. Karofsky said Ginsburg’s career opened the door for other women, like her, to seek-out careers in the court system.

The message from select lawmakers are the same, there is no need to rush.

BALDWIN

Wisconsin U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin says there is no need for the U.S. Senate to act too quickly in replacing Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Baldwin over the weekend said the presidential election is less than 50 days away, and there is no need to name someone new to the court until the election is over. Baldwin said the people need to have their voices heard before the president makes a nomination.

JOHNSON

Meanwhile, on the other side Wisconsin U.S. Senator Ron Johnson is on the list of senators who are ready to take-up President Trump’s nominee for the Supreme Court. Johnson said over the weekend that there is no need to wait to replace Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Johnson says the situation is different than it was back in 2016 because Republicans control the White House and the U.S. Senate.

In 2016, Republicans in the Senate refused to hold a hearing on President Obama’s election year nominee. Johnson says having unified government in Washington D.C. makes all the difference this time around.
