Illinois Teen Arrested For Kenosha Deaths

A teenager from Antioch, Illinois is under arrest in connection with the shooting death of two people in Kenosha.

Court records in Lake County reveal 17-year-old Kyle Rittenhouse has an extradition hearing scheduled for Friday.  He was taken into custody overnight on an arrest warrant charging him with first degree intentional homicide.  He is accused of opening fire on protestors with a rifle at demonstrations last night in Kenosha. 

The mayor of Kenosha, Wisconsin says violence in his community won’t be tolerated.

John Antaramian announced a curfew of 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. in order to curb the violence.  His comments came after a shooting that left two people dead overnight during a protest over the shooting of Jacob Blake.  The mayor admitted this has been a difficult time in his city. 

At our Capitol, Governor Tony Evers says he is grateful for the swift action leading to the arrest of one person accused of killing two people during protests in Kenosha. 

The murders last night came on the third straight night of protests in the aftermath of the critical wounding of Jacob Blake by Kenosha Police.  The governor has authorized 500 members of the National Guard to be sent to Kenosha to help support local police.  The governor urges everyone who takes part in the protests to do so peacefully.

Wisconsin’s lieutenant governor says a militia group member is to blame for the deaths that happened during protests over the Jacob Blake shooting.  Michael Castner reports.
