Responders were busy with over a dozen crashes after the winter storm over the weekend.
On Friday afternoon precipitation began as rain and quickly turned to freezing rain and snow. The region responded to 14 crashes, two of which were injury crashes, six runoffs, and 8 motorist assists.
In Jackson County at approximately 11:40 PM, the Wisconsin State Patrol and Jackson County Sheriff’s Office responded to multiple crashes on I-94 westbound between the Hixton and Black River Falls areas. The initial investigation is that a SUV was traveling west on I-94, lost control, rolled over, and came to rest in the westbound lanes of traffic. The occupants were able to get out before the SUV was struck by a semi-tractor trailer unit.
Due to the debris in roadway west bound I-94 traffic was rerouted at 12 and during the lane closure and rerouting of westbound I-94 traffic, secondary crashes occurred near the exit of USH 12 (exit 115), including a semi-tractor trailer rollover which blocked the left lane of traffic of I-94 west During the overnight incidents, bridge decks iced over, causing for slippery travel conditions.
The Jackson County Highway Department responded, improving corridor driving surfaces. I-94 west bound lanes were reopened at approximately 1:00 AM. No injuries were reported throughout the Jackson County crashes.
