Change is the only constant and here again, we are looking at changes. But, as we are taking each day together we will let you know the latest, laid out in simple form. Your Covid-19 Cliff Notes are here.

As we follow the latest of the world pandemic, there is a lot (A LOT!) of information to digest, we will break it down from the larger (World) scope and work our way in here to Eau Claire and our own back yard and day to day lives. Trying to outline the basics and keep the information accurate, bite size, and easy to follow.

First of all, COVID19 is the name given to COronaVIrus Disease 2019, for the year that it was first detected. Now that we have that established we will look at the latest cliff notes.

WORLD NOTES

WORLD:  Spain now has more than a hundred-thousand confirmed cases of coronavirus.  The death toll also passed the nine-thousand mark overnight while the daily number of COVID-19 fatalities set a record at 864.  As it currently stands, the only countries with more confirmed coronavirus cases than Spain are the U.S. and Italy.

NATIONAL NOTES

NATIONAL:   The coronavirus keeps killing as it spreads across the U.S.  The death toll from the respiratory infection was more than 51-hundred Wednesday night.  There were more than 216-thousand cases across the country.  New York and New Jersey continue to lead the nation with nearly half of all cases, but numbers keep rising in other parts of the country.  California and Michigan each has more than nine-thousand each, while Florida and Massachusetts each topped seven-thousand cases.

STATE NOTES

STATE:   We are getting our first look at how many people have been hospitalized because of the coronavirus in Wisconsin. The state’s Department of Health Services yesterday said that 398 people have, or are still in the hospital because of the virus. Those numbers came as DHS said more than 16 hundred people have been confirmed sick with the virus in the state. Nearly 19 thousand other people have been tested for the virus and confirmed not to be sick.

LOCAL:   There are more people sick with the coronavirus in Eau Claire and Chippewa counties. Eau Claire County’s coronavirus count is now up to 12. There are ten people sick in Chippewa County. Dunn County continues to have just three confirmed cases.

Some of the newest face shields in America are being used in Eau Claire. Sacred Heart Hospital yesterday said it got three thousand face shields from Ford. The car maker is one of several companies that switched to making protective healthcare gear during the coronavirus outbreak.
