DEADLY HIT AND RUN IN LAKE HALLIE; SUSPECT SURRENDERS TO POLICE

A tragedy in Chippewa County unfolds as The Lake Hallie Police Department reported a fatal hit and run involving five people.

It happened just after 11:30 Saturday morning near Weber Field and the 29 overpass. The Girl Scouts were picking up trash along the roadside when a truck hit them, killing 3 children and one adult. Another child is injured in critical condition. 

The 21-year-old driver left the scene but he later returned to give himself up to police.  Police identified him as Colten Treu of Chippewa Falls. 

An investigation continues.
