POLITICS; EVERS ON TAXES

The Democratic candidate for governor says he’s looking at a ‘wide range’ of taxes that he may raise.  Tony Evers said he wants to raise taxes on the wealthy, as well as cut tax breaks for farmers and businesses to raise more money for state government.

Evers also said he’d raise the state’s gas tax.  Ever’s says the state’s priorities are out of whack.  But Republicans say Evers would ruin the state with massive tax hikes and a massive increase in state spending.

Evers says he is optimistic about the possibility of a Democratic sweep in the November midterm elections.  Evers and Republican Governor Walker both campaigned in the First Congressional District at separate events.  Walker didn’t dispute the most recent Marquette University Law School poll that showed him trailing Evers by five points.  Candidates for U.S. Senator, state Attorney General, and state treasurer appeared at events held for their respective parties.
