NWSF Faired Well in 2022

Another Northern Wisconsin State Fair is in the books. The fair in Chippewa Falls ended yesterday. Executive Director Rusty Volk says he thinks this year’s fair will get close to last year’s 110 thousand-person attendance mark. Volk says this year’s extra day may have helped those attendance numbers just a bit.

Milwaukee Sees Deadly Weekend

Milwaukee’s weekend tally includes 11 shootings and three people killed. Milwaukee Police say the violence started Friday morning when a two-year-old was shot and killed, and continued through early yesterday morning. In all, police say 11 people were shot, three of them died. Six of those shootings came on Saturday, including a double shooting that left one person dead.

Family of WI Gunman Plans to Sue

The family of the man who police say started a deadly shootout at the El Rey grocery store is planning to sue. Luis Lorenzo’s family yesterday said they plan to file lawsuits against El Rey and Marshal Public Safety, which is the company that hired the two security guards involved in the shooting. Republican National Convention Sets WI Stage

Milwaukee is updating its convention plan, this time for the Republicans. An RNC planning committee on Friday picked Milwaukee to host the 2024 Republican National Convention. Milwaukee beat-out Nashville, which saw some opposition from local Democratic leaders. Milwaukee will largely use the plan first put together for the Democratic National Convention in 2020. The convention didn’t happen because of the coronavirus. The RNC is planned for the summer of 2024.

Democrats Debate

Voters got their first side-by-side look at the Democrats running for U.S. Senate. Five of the candidates debated last night in Milwaukee. Most of the talk was, predictably, about abortion and what they would do to reinstate abortion in Wisconsin. They also took shots at Republican Senator Ron Johnson. Polls show frontrunner Mandela Barnes with a slight lead over newcomer Alex Lasry. State Treasurer Sara Godlewski, Outagamie County Executive Tom Nelson, and non-profit leader Steven Olikara trail in the polls.

WI Coronavirus Hospitalizations Hold Steady

Wisconsin is starting the week with just over 400 people in the hospital with the coronavirus. The state’s Hospital Association on Friday said 415 people were in the hospital with the virus, that’s down by a dozen from the week before. Just 53 people are in the ICU in the state. Judge Orders Documents Handed Over

A Dane County judge continues to order Republicans to turn over everything they have about the investigation into the 2020 election. A judge on Friday ordered Assembly Speaker Robin Vos to hand over more documents to the liberal group American Oversight. The group is suing over the investigation into the last presidential vote in the state. Vos has already turned over 14 hundred pages of emails and documents related to the case.

Silo Fire in Rice Lake

There were no injuries reported after a fire in Rice Lake. At approximately 8:05 am on July 16, 2022, the Rice Lake Fire Department was dispatched to a reported fire in a silo at the American Excelsior plant at 831 Pioneer Avenue in the City of Rice Lake.  Upon arrival of the first fire department unit at approximately 8:09 am, moderate smoke was visible from the base of the silo. WI Counties See Covid-19 Cases Climb

The number of counties with a high level of COVID-19 is skyrocketing.  The Department of Health Services now lists 14 counties that are experiencing high levels of the virus.  Last week it reported just one county with high levels.  The CDC basis levels on the number of cases and hospitalization rates.  Southern counties now in the high level include Rock County, Milwaukee County, La Crosse County and Waukesha County.  There are ten counties in the high range in the north,
