Life In Prison For WI Woman

A Fort Atkinson woman will spend the rest of her life in prison for killing her grandmother, then setting her house on fire. A judge yesterday sentenced Elizabeth Durkee to life with the possibility of parole. Durkee admitted that she killed her grandmother last year to keep her from returning to a nursing home. She set the house on fire to cover-up the crime. Durkee, who is 37-years-old, will be allowed to apply for parole after 22-years in prison.

Suspected Shooter Still on Loose

 We’re getting a better picture of the violent past of downtown Madison’s latest accused shooter. Police records show 40-year-old Lamar Jefferson was arrested a week before last week’s deadly shooting after he threatened to kill someone. The police report from his arrest says Jefferson told officers someone hit him, and said he was going to kill that person. Jefferson was eventually arrested for disorderly conduct. Man Facing Charges After Threatening Child Services

The western Wisconsin man who threatened to kill people to get his child back is looking at charges. Prosecutors in Buffalo County yesterday said charges will be coming against Samuel Holmes. He’s the man arrested on Wednesday after the sheriff’s office says he threatened employees of Buffalo County Health and Human Service, and after he called Lutheran Social Services in Eau Claire.

Gov. Evers Looks Create PFAS Pollution Standards

Wisconsin’s governor is looking to take the first step toward setting regulations for the so-called forever chemicals. Governor Tony Evers is expected to ask the Department of Natural Resources Board for permission to create standards for PFAS pollution. There are currently no state regulations at all because the conservatives who control the DNR board scuttled a proposal to set those limits earlier this year. WI D.A.’s Ask Judge to Toss Abortion Lawsuit

The D.A.s in Milwaukee, Madison, and Sheboygan want a judge to dismiss Attorney General Josh Kaul’s lawsuit against Wisconsin’s abortion law. The three prosecutors yesterday asked a judge to toss the case, saying Kaul doesn’t belong in the case. Sheboygan County D.A. Wisconsin’s Republican U.S. Senator says he didn’t want to see Congress get involved in the back-and-forth between railroad companies and their unions. Several Charged in WI Drug Bust

 Ten people are charged in connection with a methamphetamine ring in Fond du Lac.  The Fond du Lac County District Attorney’s Office says the suspects have delivered over 100 pounds of meth worth over one-million dollars this year.  This morning the D-A’s office announced three of the suspects are still out of custody.  They’re all facing a number of drug charges.
