Bar Owner Facing Arson Charges

Prosecutors in Juneau County are moving ahead with arson charges against the owner of Beagles Bar in Lyndon Station.  The D.A. in Mauston yesterday filed charges against 43-year-old Heath Fjorden.  Investigators say he dumped gas on the basement floor of the bar earlier this month, then lit it on fire.  Firefighters were suspicious of the fire from the get-go.  Fjorden is in the hospital with severe burns, he says he was burned during a grill mishap at his home.  Investigators

Insurance Company Talks Hail Claims

 State Farm is recommending you file a claim if this week’s hail storm left your car without a windshield.  The insurance company yesterday said it is dealing with a lot of calls about damage from Tuesday’s storms.  Some folks saw baseball-sized hail during the worst of the weather.  State Farm says in addition to the claim paperwork, they will need pictures of the damage and pictures of any repair work in order to process things properly.

Parents Facing Multiple Child Neglect Charges

A pair of Chippewa Valley parents are facing neglect charges after the state says they continue to ignore their three kids. Prosecutors in Eau Claire County this week filed nine counts of neglect against James and Holly Hasledalen. Investigators say child protective services has been to the couple’s home in Eau Claire dozens of times over the past few months. Each time they found the couple’s three kids, ages eight, two, and nearly five-months-old, filthy and unsupervised. Investigators say the

Man Charged in Catalytic Converter Thefts, Child Pornography

An Eau Claire man’s arrest for a catalytic converter theft ended with child pornography charges. Police say 56-year-old Bradley Simons left his phone behind after he stole a catalytic converter back in May. They used that phone to track him. But investigators say they also found child pornography on the phone. He was charged for both earlier this week.

Charges Dismissed in Flambeau Schools Misconduct Case

The district administrator for Flambeau Schools is no longer facing misconduct in office charges. Prosecutors in Rusk County dropped the charges this week against Erica Schley.  She was originally charged in a case that began as a complaint from her husband to a Flambeau Schools Teacher about his daughter’s grade. Charges against Flambeau’s Board of Education president were dismissed last month. Prosecutors have not yet decided on charges against Schley’s husband.

Election Day Process Under Review

There could be new rules coming for poll watchers in Wisconsin, but not in time for Election Day. The Wisconsin Elections Commission yesterday voted to begin the process to write new rules for the people who keep an eye on poll workers on Election Day. The process, though, could take as much as two years. Commission members say they want to look at how election observers can interact with people at the polls, and what kind of access they are allowed to have.

Gov. Evers Pitches Vote On New Abortion Law

WI Licenses Plates Replacement Planned

Sounding Off On Sounding Noon Alarms

Thiensville’s village president misses the noon alarm.  President Van Mobley says he wants to bring back the siren that sounded everyday at noon.  Thiensville has sounded the alarm for as long as anyone can remember, but stopped recently after someone complained.  No one on the village council could remember when or why the tradition started.  Mobley says other folks in town also want the alarm to return.  He says he’s to possibly dialing it back a bit.
