Plea Deal in Case of Tree Anger

A Brooklyn man accused of threatening people during a dispute over a tree is taking a plea deal in the case.  Paul Douglas had a preliminary hearing yesterday and pleaded no contest to making terroristic threats using a dangerous weapon.  Douglas will serve two years on probation and complete counseling.  He’s accused of threatening to shoot someone because he thought they were going to cut down a tree on his property.  This all happened on election day and forced the

WI State Patrol Welcomes K9 Officers

The Wisconsin State Patrol has two new four-legged employees.  The State Patrol says K9 Jamie is a German shorthair pointer and recently passed her training through the North American Police Work Dog Association.  K9 Thor is a Belgian Malinois   and is working on his narcotics detection training.  Their pictures are posted on the Wisconsin State Patrol Facebook page and you can see them with a CLICK HERE.

50th Anniversary of U.S. Withdrawal from Vietnam Marked at WI Veterans Museum

On March 29, 1973, U.S. ground forces withdrew from South Vietnam. The withdrawal officially ended years of war that forever markeda generation. To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the official end of the Vietnam War, the Wisconsin Veterans Museum will open a display in its Capitol Square window, “Our Vietnam Veterans: Then and Now.” The images and oral histories in this exhibit honor a handful of the more than 57,000 Wisconsinites who served in Southeast Asia between 1965 and 1973.

Police in Chippewa Falls are calming fears after another report of a gunman at the high school. Officers rushed to the school yesterday after getting a call about a gunman. No one at Chippewa Falls High School had a gun, and police say there was never any danger. Officers saw it was another swatting call. Home a Loss After Fire

A home in the Town of Anson is a total loss after an early morning fire yesterday. It took fire crews from four different departments an hour-and-a-half to get the flames under control. After the fire was out, there was nothing left of the home but some rubble. The two people who were inside at the time of the fire both made it out okay. Investigators say they are looking for a cause.

The winter of 22-23 is now in Eau Claire’s Top Ten Snowiest. Forecasters say this winter, which officially ended this week, saw 71-point-6 inches of snow. That is a little under six feet of snow. It is good enough for ninth on the list. This winter just barely beats-out the winter of 2010-2011 but is a long way away from the snowiest winter on record. Reckless Driving Fines to Double

The fines for reckless driving in Wisconsin are about to double. The Wisconsin Assembly yesterday approved a plan that would hike fines for anyone convicted of reckless driving. Right now the fines start at 25 dollars and go to 200 dollars. The legislation from state Rep. Bob Donovan would increase that to up to 400 dollars.
