Robbery In Multiple States Lands WI Man in Federal Prison

A Madison man will spend three-and-a-half years in federal prison after being found guilty of stealing from stores in other states.  The man was indicted over two years ago, accused of stealing from stores in seven states and Wisconsin back in 2019.  He was convicted of stealing over five-thousand dollars worth of items after a four-day trial that ended this week.

WI Murder Case To Be On National Stage

One Dane County’s more infamous murder cases will be on national television this weekend. CBS’ 48 Hours will run an episode on the Halderson murders. Chandler Halderson was convicted early this year for the 2021 murders of his parents. Pieces of their bodies were found at the family’s cabin. He’s now serving a life sentence. The 48 Hours episode features interviews with people involved in the case, including a local TV reporter. You can watch the Halderson episode tomorrow night.

Grannies Dance Again

It was a thank you dance for the Dancing Grannies. Milwaukee’s group of grandmas performed for the doctors and nurses at Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center yesterday. That was the hospital that treated members of the Dancing Grannies after they were hurt in last year’s attack at the Waukesha Christmas Parade. One of the grannies, Betty Streng, was seriously hurt. She says the team at St. Luke’s saved her life.

UW La-Crosse Student Death Likely Linked to Alcohol

We have some more answers about last winter’s drowning death of a UW-La Crosse student who was missing for weeks. The medical examiner in La Crosse yesterday said 25-year-old Hamud Faal had a very high level of alcohol in his system when he drowned in the Mississippi River back in February. Fall, who graduated from Sun Prairie High School, was missing until firefighters found his body in the Mississippi River in March.

The DNR is reminding hunters about safety ahead of this month’s deer season. Gun season opens in Wisconsin on November 19th. The DNR yesterday said hunters need to check their gear, and make sure everything is working and is safe. There is a focus again this year on harness safety. The state is also reminding hunters about new baiting regulations.

Ballot Fraud Case Ends in Firing

Milwaukee’s deputy elections director is out of a job and under investigation in a ballot fraud case. Milwaukee’s mayor yesterday said he fired Milwaukee Election Commission Deputy Director Kimberly Zapata after she admitted that she sent three fake military ballots to a Republican state representative. The mayor says charges are likely coming in the case. Milwaukee’s elections boss said Zapata was forthcoming about what she did, and hinted that she was making a point about a vulnerability in Wisconsin’s MyVote system.

Logging Off: Fiserv’s Move Means Back to The Office For Many

Fiserv’s move to Milwaukee will mean a return to work for more than half its employees. The Business Journal is reporting that Fiserv will be required to have 60 percent of its people working in-person in order to qualify for seven million-dollars in incentives from the city of Milwaukee. Northwestern Wisconsin Community Network has been selected as one of just 22 rural regions  nationwide added to the Rural Partners Network (RPN).
