Spending Wish-List Swells Into Billions

The wish-list for the next state budget is at least seven-and-a-half billion-dollars larger than the current spending plan.  The Institute for Reforming Government yesterday said their analysis of the budget requests from state agencies and the UW System shows a potential massive increase in state spending.  The largest potential increases are a three-point-seven billion request from the Department of Health Services and a two-and-a-half billion-dollar request from the Department of Public Instruction.  The UW System is asking for nearly a

Election Probe Records To Be Made Public

We will soon see the evidence from Michael Gableman’s probe into the 2020 election.  An attorney with Wisconsin’s Office of the Special Investigator told a judge in Madison yesterday that all of the records from Gableman’s investigation have been handed over to the legislature and are being uploaded to a website where everyone can see them.  Gableman’s investigation ended last month when Assembly Speaker Robin Vos fired him.  The records from that investigation have been at the center of a handful

Madison Ranks High For Accessibility

 Madison is a top-20 city in the U.S. for people with disabilities.  WalletHub says Madison ranks 19th for people with disabilities thanks to the 15th-best health care in the nation.  Milwaukee also ranks 60th out of the 182 largest cities in the country.  WalletHub says the best city for people with disabilities is Minneapolis, Minnesota and the worst is Gulfport, Mississippi.

MKE On Pace For Record Homicides

It was a deadlier weekend than first thought in Milwaukee.  Police in the city now say seven people were killed between Friday and Sunday night.  The homicide count was at six, but police added the accidental shooting death of a 12-year-old on Saturday to the list yesterday.  Police say seven people were killed and six others were wounded in 12 separate incidents over the weekend.  Milwaukee is on pace for another record year for homicides and non-fatal shootings this year.

Man Facing Charges After Puppies Rescued

A Hubertus man is looking at charges after animal rescuers say he was selling puppies out of the back of his pickup truck.  Prosecutors in Washington County last week filed charges against 34-year-old Colton Brooder.  He’s accused of animal mistreatment.  Police got a tip about Brooder after someone said he had 20 puppies in the bed of his truck, and another 20 in the cab.  In all, animal rescuers took 50 puppies from Brooder.  They’ve all been adopted to new
