Cheers to the Beers! Madison Brew Tops List

A Madison brewery turns out one of the best beers in the world.  Vintage Brewing Company’s Pumpernickel Porter took first in the Herb and Spiced category at the recent World Beer Cup in Nashville.  More than ten-thousand beers were entered in this year’s competition.  Vintage’s gold medal is not its first.  The brewery has won medals for its  Scaredy Cat Oatmeal Stout and McLovin Irish Red Ale. Plump at the Pump

Wisconsin gas prices are going up as the weekend begins.  Triple-A reports the statewide average price for regular ticked up to three-37 a gallon Friday, one cent higher than Thursday’s average.  Dane County’s average is three-37 a gallon while drivers in Sauk County are paying three-27 a gallon.

Thousands Set to Walk Stage

Thousands of graduates will receive their degrees today in UW-Madison’s Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Law Commencement Ceremony.  The event at Camp Randall Stadium begins at noon, with gates opening at 10 a.m. and seating available on a first-come, first-served basis.  Former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder will be the keynote speaker.

CWD Detected in Dodge Co.

The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) confirms that a Dodge County deer farm has tested positive for chronic wasting disease (CWD). The result was confirmed by the National Veterinary Services Laboratory in Ames, Iowa. The positive sample was taken from a 9-year-old doe. The 8-acre farm has been placed under quarantine, meaning no live animals or whole carcasses are permitted to leave the property. The herd will remain under quarantine while an epidemiological investigation is conducted

Student Struck Getting on the Bus

 A Reedsburg School District student dies while trying to get on the school bus this morning.  The Sauk County Sheriff’s Office says the student and the bus were hit by a truck on Wisconsin Highway 33 near the city around 7:30.  The student died at the scene and the truck driver suffered minor injuries.  No one on the bus was hurt.

Million Dollar Bond Set in Madison Bar Shooting

A man accused of killing another man outside a southwest Madison bar appears in court for the first time.  Caleb Dimaggio is charged with first-degree intentional homicide, accused of shooting Jason Pritchard to death randomly outside the Badger Tavern last Friday.  Yesterday Dimaggio was ordered held on one-million dollars bond.  His next court appearance is May 23rd.

Congrats, Grads!

It’s commencement weekend at University of Wisconsin-Madison.  Doctoral, MFA, and medical professional students will get their degrees at the Kohl Center at 5:30 this evening.  Undergraduate, law, and master’s degree students will get their degrees at Camp Randall Stadium Saturday at noon.  Both ceremonies will be streamed live on the UW-Madison Facebook page.
