More Questions Remain in Case of Mystery Woman

The woman who didn’t know who she was when she walked into the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Office last week has been identified.  The sheriff didn’t name the woman, but said she has been identified.  Deputies say she walked into the sheriff’s office last Monday, and was upset and disoriented.  She didn’t know her name or how she got to the sheriff’s office.  The sheriff’s office didn’t provide any answers about those questions either.

Firm Charges Up with Battery Plant Plans

There’s a report that a British firm wants to open a battery plant in Chippewa Falls.  The Leader Telegram says Collaborative Engineering Services are eyeing the old EOG Resources sand plant  for the new facility.  It’ll cost between 12 and 15 million-dollars to revamp the old sand plant and buy new equipment.  Company managers say they like the Chippewa Falls site because it is large, it is ready to be put to use, and there’s a rail line.  There’s no

Lawmakers Look at Court System

Wisconsin lawmakers may be ready to add something to the new state budget this week.  The budget-writing Joint Finance Committee is set to meet tomorrow to talk about the costs for the court system in the state.  That includes the budget for prosecutors and public defenders.  Both D.A.’s and defense lawyers in Wisconsin say they need more money to be able to properly deal with a growing backlog of cases.  Some communities in Wisconsin have seen their D.A. offices shrink because lawyers can make more

New Alice in Dairyland Hails From Poynette

 The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) has selected Ashley Hagenow of Poynette as Wisconsin’s 76th Alice in Dairyland. In this position, Hagenow will work for the contract year as a full-time communications professional for DATCP, educating the public about the importance of agriculture in Wisconsin. Hagenow is a senior at the University of Minnesota and will graduate in May 2023 with a Bachelor’s degree in agricultural communication and marketing, with minors in animal science and agricultural

Biggest Class in School History Walks the Stage

 The University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Class of 2023 is the biggest in the school’s history.  UW-Madison awarded 78-hundred-26 degrees Saturday.  62-hundred-25 students received bachelor’s degrees, more than 13-hundred earned master’s degrees, and 224 completed law degrees.  Former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder delivered the keynote address.

WI Shelter Seeks Help For Cat Rescues

The Dane County Humane Society is asking the community to help care for 50 cats that were brought to the shelter from a hoarding situation.  The Humane Society is working to raise seven-thousand dollars to provide urgent medical for the rescued cats.  Twenty-two dead cats were found in the home where the cats were rescued.

Cheers to the Beers! Madison Brew Tops List

A Madison brewery turns out one of the best beers in the world.  Vintage Brewing Company’s Pumpernickel Porter took first in the Herb and Spiced category at the recent World Beer Cup in Nashville.  More than ten-thousand beers were entered in this year’s competition.  Vintage’s gold medal is not its first.  The brewery has won medals for its  Scaredy Cat Oatmeal Stout and McLovin Irish Red Ale. Wisconsin gas prices are going up as the weekend begins.  Triple-A reports the statewide average price for regular ticked up to three-37 a gallon Friday, one cent higher than Thursday’s average.  Dane County’s average is three-37 a gallon while drivers in Sauk County are paying three-27 a gallon.

Thousands Set to Walk Stage

Thousands of graduates will receive their degrees today in UW-Madison’s Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Law Commencement Ceremony.  The event at Camp Randall Stadium begins at noon, with gates opening at 10 a.m. and seating available on a first-come, first-served basis.  Former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder will be the keynote speaker.
