There will be a new area code in southern Wisconsin later this year. Starting September 15th all new phone numbers in the 6-0-8 region will instead have the area code 3-5-3. The Public Service Commission of Wisconsin says it could run out of 6-0-8 numbers next year.

The company yesterday opened the door to a 650-megawatt solar-specific project that combines solar with energy storage. Xcel says the idea is to use the green energy plant to replace the old, coal-fired King plant in Minnesota. That plant is supposed to come off-line in 2028. Xcel says it wants to cut its carbon emissions by 85 percent by 2030, and eventually become carbon-free.
