Record Turnout For the Fair

Organizers of this year’s Northern Wisconsin State Fair confirm attendance this year set  a new record — more than 114-thousand people attended the fair in Chippewa Falls.  Last year, the fair generated roughly 174-million dollars for the local economy and officials say the figure will easily be exceeded this year.  Chamber of Commerce officials say the fair provides a big economic impact for the region every year.

Sawyer Co. Crash Under Investigation

On July 16, 2023 at 1:53pm, the Sawyer County Sheriff’s Office assisted by Sawyer County EMS and the Exeland Fire Department responded to a report of a motorcycle crash on State Highway 48 in the Town of Weirgor. The scene of the crash was approximately one mile west of the Village of Exeland near the intersection of Canaday Road. Madison Ranks High in Education

A new study says Madison is one of the most educated cities in the country.  WalletHub says Madison is the fifth-most educated metropolitan area, compared to the 150 largest metros in the U.S.  WalletHub says Madison has the second-highest percentage of people with high school diplomas.  The most educated city is Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Flex Lane Cuts Travel Time

The flex lane is cutting down on travel times and the number of crashes on the beltline.  That’s according to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, which says travel times decrease up to 45 percent during peak hours.  The DOT says total crashes have also gone down 20 percent in the flex lane’s first year.

Badgers Women’s Hockey Schedule Released

The Badgers women’s hockey team is out with its 2023-2024 schedule.   Wisconsin will drop the puck on its national title defense season on the road against Lindenwood on September 28th.  Their first home series will be October 5th against Boston College.

Air Quality Alert Remains

The air quality advisory for southern Wisconsin is not yet over. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources issued an advisory on Friday, it was supposed to expire yesterday at noon. But the DNR says Milwaukee, Waukesha, Dane, and Grant counties are still seeing poor air quality. The air quality index for all four counties is above 100. That means the air is unhealthy for people who are sensitive to smoke and other things in the air.

Milwaukee Police Respond to Multiple Shootings

 It was another violent weekend in Milwaukee. Police in the city say 12 people were shot between late Friday night and late last night. No one died in any of those shootings, but police say several people were rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The weekend shooting tally includes a double shooting on Saturday, and a shooting last night that sent a 16-year-old to the hospital. Police don’t have a suspect in that case.

A Fair Amount of People Visit Northern WI State Fair

The top man at the Northern Wisconsin State Fair says he knows they broke an attendance record this year. Rusty Volk says it will take a few days to get an exact headcount for this year’s fair, but he says he knows they set some kind of record. The “Kool” Kids Keep Kubb Trophy Local

This year’s Kubb champs are from Eau Claire. Max and Sam Klages and Sy Ellringer, won the 2023 U.S. National Kubb Championship yesterday. Their team Kubboom Jr won in an exciting final round match at the Eau Claire Soccer Park. Eau Claire is the home of Kubb in America, and hosts the national championship each and every year.
