Garbage Fire Closes Highway

If you think your life is a dumpster fire sometimes, this was the literal version of that. The State Patrol says a truck that was carrying garbage caught on fire on the northbound off-ramp at Highway 151 yesterday afternoon. Crews dumped the garbage on the road as they tried to put-out the flames. No one was hurt, but it took some time to clean-up the garbage and get everything back to normal.

Missing Girl Found Safe, Investigation Ongoing

Appleton Police say they’ve found a missing three-year-old girl, but there are questions to answer about her disappearance. Police yesterday said they worked with police officers in Michigan to find three-year-old Charley Peeples. She went missing Tuesday while out for a ride with her grandmother. No one is saying where the little girl was, or who she was with. Appleton Police say their investigation remains ongoing.

Busy Roads Predicted Ahead of Labor Day Weekend

The roads throughout Wisconsin will start to fill up later today. Triple-A and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation are expecting a busy Labor Day travel weekend. Audit Dings Jobs, Spending

A new audit says Wisconsin’s economic development arm didn’t come near its promised jobs mark, and might have misspent thousands of dollars in grants.  The audit of the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation says the agency spent almost one-billion dollars between 2011 and 2021, and created just over 17-thousand jobs.  WEDC had promised that billion dollars would result in over 26-thousand new jobs.  The audit also found that the WEDC awarded 50-thousand dollars in grants to ineligible companies, sent 20-thousand dollars

Special Session Pending for Child Care Funding

Democrats at the Wisconsin Capitol aren’t interested in the new child care plan from Republican lawmakers. A Republican plan to roll-back some regulations, and help day care providers add more capacity is in the works in Madison. Democrats, however, want more money, not fewer regulations. The top Democrat in the Wisconsin Senate, Melissa Agard, said the Republican plan could actually leave kids in danger. UW Campus Adds Narcan Boxes

UW-Madison is adding more Narcan boxes.  The school yesterday said it is adding 13 new boxes where people can grab a dose of Narcan.  UW-Madison now has 25 locations where Narcan is available.  The university says the additions are a direct result of the spike in fentanyl and opioid overdoses in Wisconsin and across the country.  University Health System’s Jenny Damask says most people who overdose are not alone, and more Narcan boxes give people a chance to do something

UW Health Looks to Expand Home Based Care

UW Health’s Home-Based Hospital Care program is two months in. The program looks to bring hospital-quality care to people’s homes. Right now, UW Health can take on four adult patients at a time, but they’re hoping to expand the program to help 300 patients annually by 2024.

Polk County Crash Under Investigation

On August 29, 2023, at 4:55 PM the Wisconsin State Patrol responded to a two-vehicle crash on State Hwy 35 near 20th avenue which is south of Osceola. A 2009 Harley-Davidson was southbound on STH 35 when a 2017 Dodge Ram was pulling out from a farm address onto northbound STH 35. The Dodge Ram pulled out into the path of the Harley-Davidson.
