Organizers of this year’s Northern Wisconsin State Fair confirm attendance this year set a new record — more than 114-thousand people attended the fair in Chippewa Falls. Last year, the fair generated roughly 174-million dollars for the local economy and officials say the figure will easily be exceeded this year. Chamber of Commerce officials say the fair provides a big economic impact for the region every year.

That’s according to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, which says travel times decrease up to 45 percent during peak hours. But the DNR says Milwaukee, Waukesha, Dane, and Grant counties are still seeing poor air quality. The air quality index for all four counties is above 100. That means the air is unhealthy for people who are sensitive to smoke and other things in the air.

No one died in any of those shootings, but police say several people were rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The weekend shooting tally includes a double shooting on Saturday, and a shooting last night that sent a 16-year-old to the hospital. Police don’t have a suspect in that case.
