Sex Offender to be Released

A sex offender in Eau Claire will be homeless when he gets out of prison. The sheriff’s office yesterday said 33-year-old Chizaram Okoroji will be living on the streets when he’s released next week. Okoroji has been in prison since 2009 on second and third degree sexual assault convictions. He will be on GPS monitoring, and has been ordered to stay away from children in Eau Claire.

Task Forces to Tackle Issue in WI

Wisconsin will not have a shortage of task forces this year. Assembly Speaker Robin Vos yesterday ordered the creation of four new task forces for lawmakers. They include a task force on artificial intelligence, a task force on childhood obesity, a task force on truancy, and a task force on human trafficking. The question of whether voters in Wisconsin can get a do-over ballot will be back in court next week. There is a hearing in Waukesha on a case involving ballot spoiling. That’s the term for getting a new ballot. It’s an issue because the Wisconsin Elections Commission wanted to allow voters to cast a new vote, if the candidate they originally voted for dropped out of the race. Heat Sets Records

Excessive heat continues in Wisconsin today after several cities reached 100 degrees yesterday. Milwaukee, Baraboo, Montello, and Reedsburg all crossed the threshold. Many of those cities haven’t reached 100 degrees in over ten years. Last night, Madison set a new record for the warmest low temperature with 78 degrees. Milwaukee set a record high at 101 degrees. Cooling centers are open across the state due to the dangerous heat.

Man Sentenced in Death of Coworker

The man who pled guilty to fatally shooting a coworker in Janesville is sentenced to 30 years in prison.  Twenty-four-year-old Kevin Todd from Evansville said his 30-year-old Precision Drawn Metals coworker was bullying him in the week leading to the shooting. Todd will appear in court in October for a restitution hearing.

WI Youth Program Tops Nation

Wisconsin’s Youth Apprenticeship Program is the oldest and largest in the country. A report from The Urban Institute says the program is an affordable, effective alternative to college, citing opportunities to jumpstart a career while building connections and gaining academic credit. More than eight-thousand Wisconsin youth got hands-on job experience in the 2022-23 school year.

Pitchfork Assault Under Investigation

UPDATE: The suspect in this case has been identified as Richard J. Kraemer of Catawba,Wisconsin. Kraemer and the victim were known to each other. After the assault, Kraemer fled the scene. Shortly thereafter, the Price County Sheriff’sOffice was informed of a pedestrian vs. train incident in Rusk County.
