The Badgers shook off a slow first half to put away Georgia Southern, 35-14 Saturday at Camp Randall Stadium.  The Wisconsin defense intercepted five passes and lit up the scoreboard with 28 second points, including 21 in the third quarter.  The Badgers’ Braelon Allen and Tanner Mordecai each rushed two touchdowns and Chez Mellusi ran for a score as well.  The win moves Wisconsin to 2-and-1.  They Badgers open Big Ten Conference play Friday night at Purdue.

Gas Prices Creep Up

Gas prices are climbing across southern Wisconsin. Triple-A reports the average price of regular jumped four cents a gallon in Madison on Friday, to three-63 a gallon. Prices shot up seven cents a gallon in Janesville and Beloit, to three-58 a gallon. The statewide average edged up almost a penny, to just under three-66 a gallon.

Areas of WI Remain in Drought

Some southern Wisconsin residents who set up a fire will need to get a permit. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources says parts of Dane, Grant, and Iowa counties and all of Columbia, Marquette, Richland, and Sauk counties will need a burning permit. The DNR says it’s because of exceptional and prolonged drought in the state. The order will remain in effect until a significant rain or snow.

New to the Zoo

The Henry Vilas Zoo has a new member. Geoffrey–a baby marmoset–was born last month. The zoo hasn’t done a medical check yet to find the baby’s sex. The zoo says Geoffrey is doing well and is being taken care of by his father Miguel and big brother Pip.

The Milwaukee Brewers are updating their jersey–with a Northwestern Mutual advertisement. The players’ sleeves now feature an ad patch for the first time in franchise history. The Brewers are the 15th team in Major League Baseball to put an ad on the jersey.

Arrests Made in Barron County

On Tuesday, September 12, 2023, the Barron County Sheriff’s Department responded to 194 26th Street for a burglary in progress. This property is a large sand plant just south of Chetek. Deputies used a drone, vehicles and were on foot to locate and apprehend two suspects on the property, who were actively engaged in a burglary. Taken into custody were Draven Merz, 27 from New Auburn, and Lee Lefevers, 34 of Cameron. Both are being held in the Barron County
