Man Sentenced for Armored Truck Thefts

An Eau Claire man was sentenced for stealing more than 179-thousand dollars from an armored truck facility. Ari Beck, a former employee at the local armored truck company, was charged last year with stealing full bank deposit bags. The bags came from Kwik Trip stores and cash he was meant to refill ATMs with. Beck says he spent part of the money on bills, poker tournaments, and guns. Festival to Offer Parental Leave Options

A Wisconsin grocery store chain will soon offer paid parental leave to its employees. Starting on January first, all part-time and full-time Festival Foods workers will have three weeks of paid leave following the birth of their child. The company says the benefit also includes leave for an employee who has a child placed with them for adoption or foster care. Festival Foods currently has more than eight-thousand people on staff across 41 Wisconsin locations.

Illness Continues, Connected to Applesauce Pouches

Four Wisconsinites have tested positive for high levels of lead in their blood after consuming applesauce pouches. The Centers for Disease Control says they’re investigating 205 reported cases in 33 U-S states. Symptoms of lead exposure include abdominal pain, fatigue, and neurological symptoms like seizures. The Wisconsin Health Department says cinnamon applesauce pouches from the brands WanaBana, Schnucks, or Weis should be thrown away if produced after November 2022.

Biden Talks Small Business During WI Visit

President Joe Biden is in Milwaukee today to speak on the country’s economy and Black-owned small businesses. Biden was hosted by the Wisconsin Black Chamber of Commerce. Dodge Co. Deer Farm Depopulated

The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) confirms that a Dodge County deer farm that tested positive for chronic wasting disease (CWD) in May 2023 has been depopulated. Of the 172 animals depopulated, 23 tested positive for the disease. In total, there were 26 positive cases of CWD at this premises, as three cervids had died prior to depopulation. Air Force One Puts Wheels Down in WI

President Biden is making his final trip to Milwaukee this year to promote small businesses.  Theapdnemic took its toll on small businesses nationwide — and in Wisconsin, about three percent of all small businesses shut down between 2021 and last year.  The number still increased and added a net 66-thousand jobs.  The Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce helped keep other small businesses afloat with about 36-million dollars distributed to four-thousand small businesses.

WI Officer Cleared

No charges are coming for the Watertown police officer who shot and killed a suspect in October.  The Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office is not pursuing criminal prosecution against Officer James Simon.  The officer claims he shot 30-year-old Justin Whitten after the suspect raised and cocked a pistol while trying to get away from police on a skateboard.  Witnesses told investigators they saw police personnel provide first aid to Whitten, but, he was later pronounced dead at the scene.
