We are due for an update on the push for new political maps in Wisconsin. The Wisconsin Fair Maps Coalition will hold a briefing in Madison later this morning. The Powerball jackpot continues to grow. Lottery managers say no one won Saturday’s drawing, which means tonight’s Powerball jackpot will be one-and-a-half billion dollars. The jackpot is now the fourth largest lottery prize in the world. No one has won Powerball since July when someone in California hit a billion-dollar-plus jackpot. A one-point-five-billion-dollar Powerball jackpot would be worth about 680-million dollars in a lump sum payout, that is of course before taxes.

Leaders of Madison’s Jewish community are planning a prayer vigil Sunday night after Saturday’s attacks on Israel. The Palestinian militant group Hamas launched the attack firing thousands of rockets at Israeli cities and towns. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the Jewish State is at war.

Costs Heat Up Heading into Colder Temps

Most Wisconsin families will probably have to pay more to heat their homes this winter.  The winter outlook from the National Energy Assistance Directors Association estimates electric heat will cost one-point-two percent more than last winter, while propane is expected to be four-point-two percent higher, and heating oil will be up eight-point-seven percent.  But there’s good news for people who heat with natural gas, which is forecast to cost seven-point-eight percent less than last winter.

Fill the Hill Brings in Funds

UW-Madison’s annual “Fill the Hill” fundraiser brought in over half-a-million dollars this year.  UW Foundation officials said Friday evening they’ve counted nearly 32-hundred gifts totaling more than 513-thousand dollars.  Pink plastic flamingos filled Bascom Hill, each one marking a contribution.  Fill the Hill has brought in about three-million dollars to support university programs, departments, and initiatives since it began.

Dairy Expo Shuts the Barn Door for 2023

The week-long World Dairy Expo wrapped up Friday in Madison. Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers toured the expo today and says the state’s six-thousand dairy farms contribute more than 45-billion dollars to Wisconsin’s economy every year. Authorities Seek Help in Locating Suspect

Police in the Prescott area are seeking the publics help in tracking down a suspect. The suspect broke in a window and stole the victims purse from the parking lot of St. Joseph’s Church. Suspect then use stolen credit card at the Hudson, WI Wal-Mart to buy gift cards. Left Wal-Mart in an older white Pontiac. Flags Lowered to Honor Fallen Firefighters

Flags will be flown at half-staff in Wisconsin the next two weekends honoring firefighters who’ve given their lives in the line of duty. The Final Alarm Ceremony and Silent Procession will be held at the Wisconsin State Firefighters Memorial Park in Wisconsin Rapids Saturday. National Firefighters Memorial Weekend is observed nationwide this weekend. The Wisconsin Firefighters Memorial Day will be observed next weekend.

Wisconsin Receives Settlement Money

Attorney General Josh Kaul announced today that Wisconsin, along with 49 other attorneys general, has reached a settlement with software company Blackbaud for its deficient data security practices and response to a 2020 ransomware event that exposed the personal information of millions of consumers across the United States. Under the settlement, Blackbaud has agreed to overhaul its data security and breach notification practices and make a $49.5 million payment to states. Wisconsin will receive $796,136.00 from the settlement.
