Trick-or-treating in Marshfield’s downtown historic district takes place Friday, October 27th from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. The City of Marshfield’s Street Division will be closing S. Central Ave. from W. Veterans PKWY. to E. 9th St., for the event requested by Mainstreet Marshfield beginning at 4 p.m., and will have the road reopened by 7 p.m. that evening. First Responder Families Get in Free!

As a thank you to local heroes, the Children’s Museum of Eau Claire is honored to offer free admission for first responders and their families this weekend (Saturday, October 28 and Sunday, October 29). EC Man Arrested, 10th OWI

An Eau Claire man picks up another OWI after a dangerous traffic maneuver. Prosecutors this week charged Christopher Raney with his 10th O-W-I. Police arrested him Tuesday after they say he nearly crashed into a squad car. Raney told them he’d been drinking, and he could barely stand up during his arrest. Eau Claire Police claim they found a half-empty bottle of whiskey in his SUV.

Update Released, Germantown Shooter from Illinois

We’re getting a little more information about the man shot and killed by Germantown police at a local middle school earlier this week. His family says the man is Kevin Foy of Lake Villa, Illinois. He is a veteran, his brother says he served two tours in Afghanistan. His brother says Foy was in Germantown to pick-up some things he bought at auction. WI Votes Support Speaker

All of Wisconsin’s Republican members of Congress support the new House Speaker. Republicans yesterday unanimously elected Mark Johnson from Louisiana as the next Speaker. Five of the state’s Republican congressmen voted for Johnson. Western Wisconsin Congressman Derrick Van Orden missed the vote because he is currently in Israel.

WI Wolf Management Focuses on Ranges

As expected, Wisconsin’s new wolf management plan does not include a specific number of wolves. The Department of Natural Resources Board yesterday approved the new management plan. Not having a specific wolf population number means the wolf population in Wisconsin will grow. DNR managers say they want to focus on a ‘range’ for wolves in the state, instead of a specific number. City Council Checks Stay Steady

The city council in Wausau won’t see any more money. The council could not agree on a pay raise for themselves at Tuesday night’s meeting. Council members Dawn Herbst and Lou Larson said they deserved a pay raise for doing what they do for the city. But council member Tom Kilian said the city council should take a pay cut. UW-Platteville Announces Layoffs

UW-Platteville is the latest campus to announce layoffs. The school’s chancellor yesterday said 111 people are being let go. That’s about 12-percent of the university’s workforce. Plateville says 60 people will be laid off or not have their contracts renewed,  32 people are taking early retirements, and 31 open positions will be cut. Platteville is facing a multi-million-dollar deficit, and the school says the layoffs will save about nine-million dollars. The layoffs at UW-Platteville come after layoffs at the campuses

Investigation Underway in Taylor Co.

At 10:37 a.m. today (10-25-23) the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a vehicle off the roadway at the intersection of County Rd D and Hamilton Dr. in the Town of Jump River. It was further reported that the vehicle had crashed, and an unresponsive person was laying on the ground. Emergency services were dispatched including Taylor County deputies. WI Noodles and Co. Buck Saves You “Dough”

A Wisconsin Noodles and Company is offering a “two-buck Mac & Cheese” special after a deer crashed through the window and ran through the restaurant. Beloit store manager Patti Pickering said they were in the middle of lunch rush and had 65 children eating a meal while trick-or-treating when the deer rushed through. Pickering said the kids went out the side doors while the buck came into the dining room and through the kitchen. He exited through the back door.
